Professor Rebecca Gregg

Professor Rebecca Gregg Enthralls at May 10th General Meeting
Far-ranging presentation illuminated the power of Photography to visualize expressions of love.

Rebecca Gregg took us into the photographic world of an emotion we all experience with her presentation, 'Photography and Love'. Through the works of many photographers, including Sebastião Salgado, Robert Genough and Alfred Eisenstaedt, she offered examples of the many ways photographers communicate love; eye contact, touch, expression and color are common elements used to portray this very personal message.

Professor Gregg poignantly explained, "I'm trying just to remind you of the symbols of the ways we show love visually without needing to know the people, without needing to know the photographer, the location . . . We relate it to our own lives, either in our hopes or our memories."

Love, a powerful emotional driver ...that can inspire the creation of engrossing images whether for Art's sake or persuasive Advertising.  The above were just two of many images presented by Professor Gregg to illustrate how two photographers used the emotion of Love in the creation of their images.  The taxi shot was done for an Advertisment for Dentyne Gum; the Black and White photo "The Kiss" is actually a staged image by French photographer Robert Doisneau. The photo was taken in 1950 in Paris for LIFE Magazine.  To get the details surrounding the making of the photo, click  HERE
