After visiting Death Valley, consider driving south to Trona Pinnacles. On the way, stop at Ballarat.

 

​Three and one-half miles on a dirt road from California 178, is the town of Ballarat. It’s almost a ghost town. The store, when open, has cold drinks for a reasonable price.
