Christmas Celebrations

There are several Christmas celebrations to enjoy during the weeks leading up to Christmas. Two of these were sponsored by our Sun City Lincoln Hills community, which allowed participants to board a bus in the late afternoon, travel to the event, and return a few hours later. That way, you don’t have to worry about driving at night or finding a parking space (which can be difficult).

Nevada City Victorian Christmas

Celebrate the holiday season in Nevada City. It’s a charming spot with hilly streets, authentic gas lamps, Victorian-clad carolers, and visitors sharing holiday cheer and good tidings.

This annual family tradition has been celebrated since 1978 and occurs on two Wednesday evenings and three Sunday afternoons in December. It features holiday activities for people of all ages, such as live entertainment, festive treats and drinks, and Father Christmas!

Enjoy the holiday atmosphere on Main Street, where Victorian-style carolers and others walk along the streets. Search online to find out the hours this celebration is open.

Grass Valley Cornish Christmas

The historic hamlet of Grass Valley has its roots in the gold mines of the Sierra Nevada.

When the mineral deposits in 19th-century Cornwall, England, began to decline, Cornish miners looked for new opportunities. Many of them traveled to California’s Gold Rush towns, including Grass Valley.

By 1890, an impressive 85% of Grass Valley’s population had Cornish ancestry.

In 1967, the Cornish Christmas Grass Valley celebration was founded to honor the Cornish miners and their descendants. This event helps preserve Grass Valley’s rich Cornish heritage and holiday customs. Today, it remains one of the town’s most cherished and popular annual gatherings, where the spirit of Christmas from the past comes alive, providing a delightful experience for all your senses.
