Dutch Flat California

About 30 miles east of Auburn on Interstate 80 is the turnoff for Dutch Flat. Bustling between 1851 and 1873, it is now very quiet. Its tiny museum describes the hydraulic mining during the Gold Rush times which carved away mountains.

Today, there are a few buildings and an interesting pioneer cemetery located a short drive from town. During a town open house a few years ago, we sat down with the Honorary Mayor and had cake, cookies and lemonade provided by volunteers. Surrounded by fragrant pines, it’s a peaceful, quiet place with friendly people.

To Get There

Take 193 to Interstate 80 and proceed east on 80 to the Dutch Flat Exit. Distance is about 41 miles.
