At about 8,100 feet, lupines peak in August in Lassen Park
Lassen Volcanic National Park
There are five entrances to Lassen Volcanic National Park. If you’re new to the park, the southwest entrance station, about a 3 to 4-hour drive from Lincoln Hills, has a nice visitor’s center with toilets and a cafe.

The rangers have notebooks with wildflower pictures and locations. They suggested the eastern entrances of the park for earlier-season wildflowers, but mentioned that this area may involve more strenuous hiking. We’ll investigate the eastern part next year.

We walked the Paradise Meadows and Kings Creek trails, and in mid-August, there were still some flowers in optimum shape. If you are near the northwest entrance later in the afternoon, have a look at Lassen Peak and its reflection in Manzanita Lake.
