Washington California
Washington, California is located on the South Yuba River, 6 miles off Route 20 in Nevada County. The SCLH Hiking Group walked the Poorman Creek trail for about 2 miles and returned to the town for lunch at the Washington Hotel.
Washington’s elevation is about 2,500 feet, almost 2,000 feet above South Yuba River State Park (SYRSP), about 25 miles downstream. The wildflowers were about a week behind at Poorman Creek, compared with SYRSP’s Buttermilk Bend Trail.

To get there
Take Highway 80 towards Reno and exit Highway 49 in Auburn. Go to Grass Valley, and take Highway 20 east. Turn left on Washington Road, and you’ll reach the town in about 6 miles.
