Pow Wow - Native American Celebration

There are over 500 federally recognized Tribal Nations in the United States and every year some of them present a Pow Wow. There was one on October 19, 2024 in the Cesar Chavez Park, Sacramento.

The pow wow is a celebration of American Indian culture during which people from Indigenous Nations gather to honor the traditions of their ancestors.

​

There were several different performances, and during each one a tribal leader described the spiritual meanings of the dances and specifics of their traditional outfits.

​

It was emphasized that they don’t refer to themselves as ‘Indians’ but Native Americans or Indigenous Americans.
