Being that our club is a photography club we have a Galleries section on our website where members can display their photos. The only restriction to having a gallery on our website is that you must be a member of the club. We encourage all members to have their own gallery and to that end we needed a procedure for members to follow to have their own gallery. Bob and Mike Johnson, our Photo Editor, have worked out a procedure that members desiring to display their work in their own gallery can follow. This can be as simple as taking your JPEGs straight from your camera and putting them on a flash drive and submitting them to Mike Johnson.

For those that want more control over how their photos appear in their gallery there are some additional procedures that must be followed. Because of the way WIX, the platform for our website, displays photos some specific procedures need to be followed to prepare photos for display on our website. All this information can be found on the  Members  page of our website.

Originally Bob and I thought that the discussion of this topic would take about 15 minutes or so. But as often happens when he got into the procedures for those that spend a lot of time editing their photos the presentation evolved into a discussion into the nitty gritty of sharpening and other aspects of enhancing photos for proper display on our website. As usual there was some lively discussion and we all learned a few things.

To summarize Bob's presentation WIX automatically applies some sharpening to photos before they are displayed. For those that simply submit their photos straight from their camera this in most instances should not be a problem. However if you do post processing on your photos before submission then WIX’s automatic sharpening could have an adverse impact on your photo. Bob has spent a lot of time creating the procedures to follow to eliminate any adverse effects on your photos so again I advise you to take a look at the procedures for submitting photos for your own gallery.
