The General Meeting, in Kilaga Presentation Hall usually features a guest speaker on a specific aspect of photography. It also is a forum to discuss current and upcoming events of interest.

Special Learning Session (SLS) (was Photography Special Interest Group) - 1st Wednesday @ 9:00AM
 

The Special Learning Session (SLS) includes exploration of camera settings, composition tips, post processing tools, smart phone photography,  and specialized areas such as bird and Milky Way photography.  The presentations are developed to take into consideration the needs of beginner and intermediate photographers, as well as, a refresher for more advanced users.  Speakers and suggestions are welcome. Show & Tell Extravaganza, Saturday, August 16th

​The next Show and Tell Extravaganza is scheduled for Aug 16. The Show and Tell will be in the Kilaga Springs Presentation Hall from 9am – 11am. This is your chance to show off the fabulous photos have been taking over the past winter, spring and summer! And the Show and Tell is not limited to photos. You’re welcome to highlight any new software, photo techniques or new camera gear that is serving you well! Specifics on the Show and Tell will be forthcoming.

The Show and Tell will be followed by a Social (menu TBD). The social will be in ‘the Kitchen’ across from Presentation Hall. The cost is $5.00 for food, beverages, room rental and serving suppliesl” . There is no need to bring anything; this is not a potluck. Tickets go on sale at the General Meeting on Jul 9. The space in the Kitchen is limited to 60 so get your ticket early! All members, currently with their dues are invited! If you are not current, you can catch up with your dues at the Extravaganza.

The Show & Tell Extravaganza was held on Saturday, August 16th, with twenty one Club members sharing their photographic achievements.  The Extravaganza was followed by a social hour luncheon with pizza, salad and dessert.  Many thanks go to Truman Holtzclaw who captured the spirit and enjoyment of the event through his candid photos of the participants.  Click on either of the images below to access Truman's candid photos in a rolling slideshow format.

Join us for a fun, hands-on introduction to Snapseed, a powerful (and free!) photo editing app. In just two hours, you’ll learn how to quickly enhance your images, fix common problems, and add creative flair, all from your smartphone or tablet.​​​

Reflections, Color, and Light: Hands-On Photo Play
A Special Learning Session - November 3, 2025
1-3 pm

Join us for a fun and interactive two-hour photography workshop to discover creative ways to photograph reflections and vibrant abstracts. You'll rotate through 3-4 fun shooting stations using a variety of inexpensive or common items. Whether you use a smartphone, DSLR, or mirrorless camera, you'll learn simple, effective techniques to craft eye-catching images. No special equipment needed—just bring your camera and curiosity! 

​You will need to know the basics of your camera body or smartphone app you use to shoot photos (such as how to shoot macro on your device), but beyond that, no real experience is needed. The stations are designed for ease, and tripods are generally discouraged due to limited space in our room. If you're using a DSLR or mirrorless camera, bringing a macro lens can help you capture especially vivid close-up details.

Field Trip - Lincoln Wings & Wheels

                  Saturday, August 23, 2025
Time: 8AM – 5PM  (Hot air balloon launch @ 6:30AM)
      Lincoln Regional Airport - 1480 Flightline Drive

The event will kick off with the enchanting sight of hot air balloons ascending at dawn, setting the stage for an exciting day ahead (weather permitting). This will be followed by the arrival of various aircraft, ready for static displays and breathtaking flybys, alongside an impressive collection of display vehicles spanning numerous categories. All are great photo opportunities.

 

We propose starting with the balloon take-off at dawn at 6:30AM. And, let’s do breakfast, 9AM, meet in the general food court area.

 

Admission to the show is $10. Preferred parking pass $15, must be purchased in advance. Parking on street and outside venue is free. Use this link to order tickets online. 2025 Lincoln Airport Wings & Wheels  or scan the label on the poster which will take you to the page.

Field Trip to the "Old West" - Carson & Virginia City, Nevada

                                      September 4th to 7th, 2025

Let’s walk back into the 1800’s and photograph the old west towns of Virginia City, Dayton and Carson City. There’s opportunities for high desert landscape with its beautiful sunrises and sunsets.

 

Ever consider going to the Virginia City Camel and Ostrich races on Sept 6? Here is your chance!
 

We are proposing a stay at the Courtyard by Marriott, Carson City.

FOTO OP - California Swan Festival 2025
                     November 6 through 9th, 2025

This is an opportunity to view and photograph a variety of migrating and local bird species at multiple locations around Sacramento (1 to 2 hours average drive time from Lincoln). The Swan Festival is made up of sixteen different tours. To see where each tour is bird focus, locations, times and cost, please use the following link. Tours & Workshops – California Swan Festival

Since we couldn’t just pick one tour as a field trip, we suggest reviewing the tours and picking one that appeals to you. As members share who is going where, we will distribute this information with those attending to help with car-pooling or sharing photographic opportunities together. Field Trip 

NEVADA CITY VICTORIAN CHRISTMAS FIELD TRIP
December 17, 2025 5pm to 9pm Nevada City

 

Christmas is right around the corner. Join fellow club members to capture the spirit of the holidays on Main Street as Victorian-attired carolers and other folks walk the streets. Off Main Street are the Victorian-style homes dressed for the holidays.

And, one significant advantage is that we don't have to worry about driving and parking. Our Sun City Lifestyle team has arranged bus transportation. See the Sun City website, under Life Styles Day Events. Victorian Christmas in Nevada City Event #: LST598 Cost is $60. Bus leaves Orchard Creek lodge at 4 pm and returns at 10 pm. Tickets go fast.​ If you wish to drive, parking can be a challenge, there is some public parking available and a shuttle service from Nevada County Rood Center - 950 Maidu Avenue, Nevada City ($7 adult). Recommend going early.

Death Valley National Park Field Trip

               March 16th to 20th, 2026, 4 nights

Join fellow members and discover the beauty of Death Valley’s many geological and historical sites. We will cover sunrises, sunsets and the dark skies this week will create some great astrophotography opportunities.  Photo instructional sessions will be provided by our Truman Holtzclaw. Looks like a number of our experienced photographer members will be joining us who always are willing to share their knowledge and provide a few tips.

Heather Brown has worked hard to secure special group discount rates at Stovepipe Wells Village, in the heart of Death Valley. Please contact Heather right away regarding all accommodations and pricing to ensure obtaining a room at favorable rates.

 Kilaga Springs Spa currently has an exhibit. 

 Themes of the photo images, which must be followed for each Spa room, are: Ponds, Beaches, Lakes,   Meadows, Forests, Streams and also Landscapes and Flowers.

Current Exhibit - Simple Pleasures

The current LHPC exhibit at Simple Pleasures Restaurant will close on June 2, 2025.  Photographers will meet at Simple Pleasures on that date from 2:00 pm to 2:15 pm to take down their photos, and the Painters will hang their art.

The next opportunity to participate in the Simple Pleasures Restaurant exhibit will be in October 2025.  Check back to this site for details.

Use your creativity.  The SCLH Photography Facebook page is a PRIVATE page.  Only members of LH Photography Club can join this Facebook page, and they cannot invite family nor friends.
