Steve Stewart's “Filter Forge” Presentation Receives

Enthusiatic Response at September Print SIG meeting.

If you are looking to move beyond the box of just making "straight" photographic images, the Filter Forge program might be right up your alley.

Steve Stewart presented an introductory overview of Filter Forge, a program that enables users to create their own “special effects filters” that can be used to produce highly stylized images from photographs.

Steve also be presented several images he created using Filter Forge at the September 23rd meeting which was held in the Kilaga Springs Presentation Hall from 10:30-11:30am.

Enthusiatic Reception

His images were very well received by the attendees as was the presentation of the Filter Forge capabilities.

Filter Forge supports the creation of textures, distortions, backgrounds, frames, and a variety of artistic effects such as acrylic painting, water color, pencil drawings, oil painting, pen and ink sketches as well as color manipulation effects, black and white conversions and much more.

Filter Forge also provides free access to more than 11,000 user-created filters from their online library. Anyone can contribute their textures and effects to the online filter collection so it grows with every submitted filter.  You can access Filter Forge at www.FilterForge.com.

Standalone or Plug-in

The program can be run as a stand alone application for both Windows or Mac systems and can also be integrated as a Plug-in to Photoshop’s “Filters” category of tools.

All Filter Forge filters automatically support 16- and 32-bit modes in Photoshop, real-world HDRI lighting, bump and normal maps, huge resolutions, and most filters can be seamlessly tiled.

Even if you don't want to create your own filters, the huge online library of effects is sure to inspire your creativity.

Print Special Interest Group... what it's all about.

"If it's not on paper it's not a photograph!!"

Those might be fighting words for some of our members, but there are those among us that believe in the sentiment.  The Print SIG is for them.

The Print Special Interest Group meets on the 4th Wednesday of the month in the Orchard Creek Lodge Multi-purpose Room, from 10:30am to 11:30am, immediately after the Round Table SIG.

The SIG is dedicated to advancing the art of putting images on paper.  Members are encouraged to present their photographs for discussion and evaluation.  We also explore printing techniques, printing papers, matting and framing techniques and the software tools used to prepare our images for printing.

While many of our members use their own desktop printers to print their images, others use the services of third-party printing solutions such as Costco, Bay Photo, Aspen Creek and others.

If you want to learn about printing, preparing your images for third-party services, or improving your printing techniques and methods, this it the place to get the information you need.

If you want to learn more about the group, stop by and check out one of our meetings.
