July Photography Club General Meeting
Wednesday, July 10, 9:00 A.M., Orchard Creek - Front Ballroom (Note Location)
"Composition - Building Better Photos"
Presented by Ron Nabity
"You don't take a photograph, you make it." - Ansel Adams
At our July General Meeting, the presentation topic will be "Photo Composition". Ron Nabity will share various techniques and examples, explaining how and why a technique is used. Composing a photograph involves making deliberate choices about the various elements in an image, how those elements are arranged and how they interact to tell the story in the photo. These choices can make the difference between a basic photograph and an interesting one.
Using composition techniques costs nothing and can be applied to photographs made with any image-creating device. See you then!
You may view Ron's presentation [HERE].

Photographing The Milky Way and
Galaxy Using Your Smartphone
Photo Club Milky Way – Galaxy Field Trip
You are cordially invited to join us on a Field Trip to photograph the Milky Way – Galaxy in the dark skies of Hope Valley near Lake Tahoe.
Trip Dates: August 4 & 5, 2024
What: A photo club field trip and adventure to the mountains south of Lake Tahoe during the darkest skies of the month.
Why: The Milky Way is highly visible during this time, and your smartphone and cameras can see many details we cannot see with our eyes. All of us have seen these types of photographs displaying incredible beauty.
Who: Everyone from beginners to advanced. All cameras from smartphones (from ~ 2020 releases) to high-end cameras will be able to capture the incredible beauty of a vast array of stars.
When: August 4 & 5, 2024. This is the “new moon phase” which is the darkest time of the month. The location is one of the “dark skies” areas as there are no urban areas nearby. This combination means there is very little “light pollution” so the stars are highly visible.
Where: We will be setting up in locations in the Hope Valley where we have had great success in the past.

We have presentation handouts we can email to you upon request. Some of our members will be available to help others with technical and set-up advice in practice sessions before the trip or on-site at the Hope Valley locations.

Announcing the Orchard Creek Rotunda Exhibit
July 3rd Deadline
Finally, we can again exhibit our photographs in the Orchard Creek Rotunda area. It has been a long time since the start of COVID till now.
This is a special exhibit. It's an incentive for anyone who has exhibited in Simple Pleasure. More and more photographers only show digital, making it difficult to get them to show framed photographs. We do not want to lose the Simple Pleasure venue. There is nothing like the thrill of seeing your photographs hanging in a public building and being viewed by all.
If interested, please fill out the attached application with the Asso. Waiver and email it to Rhonda Campbell. List your best 3. If I get enough before the July 3rd Deadline, we have the opportunity to exhibit most of July and the whole month of August.
