Senior National Parks Pass Price Increase

One of this countries great treasures is it National Parks. In case you were unaware the National Parks Service sells a Senior National Parks pass. Any citizen or permanent resident age 62 and older can purchase a Senior National Parks pass for $10. The pass is valid for the life of the purchaser and never has to be renewed. On August 28, 2017 the cost of this pass is going up to $80. However any application post marked before August 28th will be processed at the $10 fee. There is a $10 application processing fee if you apply by mail or you can visit any of the locations where they sell the pass and avoid the $10 processing fee. To avoid the processing fee you can apply in person at the locations below. Call before you go. If you are aware of other closer locations where the pass can be purchased please post it in a comment. For a more complete list look HERE. If your pass is worn and in need of being replaced you can do so by returning the pass along with a $10 processing fee. See the online application at the bottom of the page.

This pass not only allows free entrance into all National Parks but also National Forests, National Recreations Areas, and other federal lands. A more complete list can be found HERE. In addition to free entrance the pass also offers discounts on some amenities. On my trip to Death Valley with the Photography Club I decided to stay in the campground instead of the motel. With my Senior National Parks Pass the cost for five nights was $110 which I split with my brother in law versus over $1000 had I stayed in the motel.

The Photography Club has field trips that sometimes require entering lands covered by this pass so if you have one of these passes you won't have to pay the entrance fee.

The pass is issued to a single person, however when it comes to admission it covers everyone in the pass owners vehicle which is great if you are traveling with others who do not have a pass.

One Further Bit Of Information: The Canadian National Parks Service is celebrating it's 150th anniversary. As part of the celebration they are offering a Canadian National Parks Pass for free. This pass allows free admission to all Canadian National Parks during the year 2017. This worked out well for me as I will be visiting several Canadian National Parks in September. For more information you can look HERE.
