Have You Renewed Your Annual Membership?
Deadline WAS September 1st
The deadline for membership renewal was September 1st. Although we have created several opportunities for renewal, at last glance, several members still have not renewed.

Those who have not renewed will be dropped from the club rolls and will not longer be included in any formal Club communications such as Special Interest Group (SIG) E-mail announcements, Field Trip announcements, Club sponsored Exhibit opportunities and Special Events like the Christmas Party and Annual BBQ.

The Club has always had a welcoming posture, so for those who would like to re-join, the membership fee remains a very reasonable $15 per household, per year. Checks should be made out to LHPC. You can also mail your payment to:

Galaxy & Wildflower Photo Opportunities Highlight Tahoe Field Trip
We've posted 100 photos on the July Field Trips to Tahoe and Loon Lake on the Field Trip page HERE
Club photographers gathered in July for a favorite field trip to Lake Tahoe. The trip was a great success due to months of meticulous pre-planning. Because of all the planning efforts, members enjoyed the best locations for wild flowers and Milky Way shots. And as a bonus, members were trained in using Theodolite and PhotoPills apps. A complete packet of restaurants and lodging made sure everyone was well fed and has the best accommodations.

Even though field trips are planned by and offered for club photographers, everyone is there individually so your itinerary is your own. Many photographers pair up and split off based on specific interests. For an in-depth look at the summer Tahoe adventure, see more HERE

July 24th Loon Lake Galaxy Photo Shoot Does Not Disappoint.
Maxfield Parrish Skies - panorama composite image by Greg Ferguson of Loon Lake. Photo was taken from the Helipad area on the West end of the lake overlooking Ice House Road. Access via the Loon Lake Chalet driveway.
What's for breakfast? - Greg Ferguson (l) and Bob Baikauskas talk about last night's Galaxy shoot and the breakfast of eggs, sausage and home fries that will soon be served. The campers included Dale Petersen and Charlie Schuman who slept under the stars.
Loon Lake once again proved to be an excellent location to photograph the Milky Way Galaxy this past July.

Intrepid photographer's Greg Ferguson, Charlie Schuman, Dale Petersen, Mike Romo, Marian Rueter and Bob Baikauskas ventured to the lake on July 24 & 25 and were not disappointed with the light show appearing in their camera's display.

The group photographed the Galaxy from the two locations identified in last month's issue of the website.
The Galaxy was again visible on August 21st, 22nd & 23rd, however thunderstorms were in the area on the 21st & 22nd.

For the die-hard, the Galaxy will be visible again in September from the 18th to the 20th. The window of visibility for the Galactic Core (brightest part) will begin at approximately 8:30 PM and end at approximately 11:10 PM. It will begin to be visible at a compass bearing of 201º and end at a bearing of 232º. Core elevation will be approximately 18º at the beginning of the window of visibility
A gallery of 100 Field Trip photos have been posted to the Field Trip page HERE

A Variety of Topics Scheduled for the September 6th Photo Enhancement SIG
1. For starters the September 6th Photo Enhancement SIG will feature Allen Adler. Allen recently attended a Scott Kelby Lightroom workshop and will present a few of the tricks he learned for making quick and easy adjustments to your photos.

2. September's General Membership Meeting's topic is Show & Tell. In other words it will feature photos from our members. If you are considering showing some of your work but would like some constructive feedback on your photos and/or would like some help making improvements to them then bring them to the meeting on a flash drive and our resident experts will be more than happy to give their honest opinion of your photos and show you how to make them better.

3. If there is any time left I plan to show some more videos on tips and tricks for using Photoshop and On1 Photo RAW and perhaps other software.

Fire up your creative mojo, take the October Enhancement SIG
Image Processing/Interpretive Challenge.
de gustibus non disputandum est
The October Photo Enhancement SIG will feature a "Photo Processing/Interpretive Challenge" and will be hosted by Bob Baikauskas (Gary will just be returning from a 22-day vacation). The challenge will be to download one of three photos from this site and process/enhance it for presentation to the SIG attendees.

The idea is to take a look at how different people interpret,
and put their personal touch to the same image.

There are no rules other than you must still be able to recognize the enhanced photo as being derived from the original photo. You can turn it into a work or art such as a painting, a sketch, a cartoon, an abstract or you can just make it a better photo. It's up to you. Feel free to let your creativity and imagination run wild or show off your skills at creating a great photo using your favorite post processing software.

We have posted the un-processed (the way they came out of the camera) high-rez 14Mb images (see below) on a separate page so you can download the images to your computer.

The Art of the Interview is the topic for the September Video SIG meeting.
After you have set up your lights, camera, and sound system, how do you get good content in the interview itself? This month’s video SIG will be an interactive presentation on the interview. Jeff Hanner will give a short introduction to how to set an interview using the camera you have and equipment most people have around the house.
Sandi Dolbee, a journalist living in SCLH, will demonstrate how to conduct an interview, including common mistakes, and tips on creating a rapport that capture the heart of the person being interviewed. Audience interaction and questions will be welcome.

The Video SIG meets the 3rd Tuesday of the month in the Orchard Creek Lodge Multi-purpose Room at 9:00AM
Lifestyles Photography Group builds on experience to support future Ride-To-Walk fund raising events.
We've posted three photo galleries to showcase the events.
By: Jim Cormier Co-Lifestyles Coordinator

A few months ago, the Lincoln Hills Lifestyles Event Photography Group stepped up and provided photography support for the Third Annual Lincoln Lion’s Club Special Kids Day. The event was hosted at the Ride-To-Walk facility on HWY 193.
The photos and Hi-Def Blu-ray slideshow presentation we provided Bob Olin of the Lincoln Lion’s Club were very much appreciated and will be used in marketing for future Ride-To-Walk events.
Our services have again been requested to cover another upcoming event that is to be held at the Ride-To-Walk facility sometime around the May time frame. This event is the Ride-To-Walk - Beer & Wine Tasting Festival.
It is anticipated that there will be approximately 500 people in attendance. This event is to raise money to support the fantastic services that the Ride-To-Walk organization provides to special needs children of all ages and their families.
It is a pleasure for us to be working with Danielle Lawlor, PTA to do our part to capture this awesome first annual fundraising event. Danielle works in the Kilaga Springs fitness area as a trainer.
Putting on a large event like this is a first for Danielle so we are taking the knowledge we have accumulated from previous large event photo shoots, such as the Lincoln Pace Race. We will use our knowledge to provide the best photographic coverage of the event to Danielle and the owner of the Ride-To-Walk facility. We will also provide them with high quality photos that they can use in other marketing campaigns.
Take time to visit the Lifestyles Photography Group web page to see what other projects we have covered and the projects we have in the planning stages. You can get their by clicking HERE
Past Projects: the photos to the left are typical of the type of photography our Lifestyles Photographers produce for the various organizations they serve here in Sun City Lincoln Hills.

The Portuguese Festival, History Park, San Jose
Parade at the Portuguese Festival in San Jose. Photo by Bill Kress
A couple of months ago, we described the Scottish festival in Woodland. When we heard about the Portuguese Festival in San Jose, we wondered how many people of Portuguese descent are in the area -- The answer: lots.
History park was packed for the event. Complete with parade and many music events, and, of course, great food - many items we never heard of, but were excellent. The event is on or around June 10, Portugal Day.

The Portuguese Historical Museum, which is in the History park is quite large and the exhibits were interesting.
Entrance was free. Parking was nearby and cost $6.00.

The latest blog post gives my opinions and that of experts on backing up photos as well as other important files and presents links to articles that deal with the subject of backups. It will discuss backup software some which is free and some you have to pay for. It will also list cloud based solutions for backing up your photos and other important files.

You may think you are doing everything right when it comes to backups but are you? Check out this blog post and then you can make an informed decision on whether to keep doing it the way you are doing it or switch to a different and hopefully better way.

One of the nice things about the Blog is you have the ability to comment on blog posts and respond to someone else's comments. You can even put a photo in your comment. If you have any experience with, or opinions about, any of the information presented in the blog posts please share your thoughts with your fellow Club members. Post a comment. I would prefer the Blog be a conversation and not a lecture.
