Southern Oregon and Northern California Field Trip

May 28 to June 2, 2018

Truman and Sandy Holtzclaw led the field trip to photograph sunsets, shorelines, wildlife, redwoods, historic structures and much more.

Highlights included beautiful sunsets on Brandon beach, Victorian buildings and an animal parade in Ferndale, a huge sand artwork drawn by a labyrinth artist, bunches of terrestrial orchids and Darlintonias in a bog, the huge Redwood tree featured in a past National Geographic article, historic lighthouses and much more.

We’ll be putting pictures from all participants on next month’s Field Trip page.

Basics of Great Photography Workshop

The May Learning SIG featured discussions and visual demonstrations of the impact of weather on your images, how changing the position of your camera changes the feel of your images and the importance of framing your images.

As has been the pattern since the SIGs establishment, the room was filled.

The May SIG was the last SIG before taking a summer break. Please check the website for the timing of the next series of Learning SIGS commencing this fall.

Testimonial for Lincoln Hills Lifestyles Photography Club

STEM EXPO 2018 Rocklin, CA

We would like to thank the Lincoln Hills Lifestyles Photography Club for volunteering their services at STEM Expo - Placer County’s official alternative to the traditional science fair - held March 3, 2018 in Rocklin.

What a great group of photographers!  Brad Senn - Klara Kleman - Jeff Andesen - Charlie - Schuman - Jim Cormier - Carl Neeley - Gary Stephens

Our event involves a myriad of activities throughout the day including: judged student exhibits, vendors, stage presentations and award ceremony, all of which the club members handled with both professionalism and great attitude. After the event, they quickly provided our non-profit with documentation photos as well as artistic shots and a video that we will be able to utilize both on our website and future marketing/fundraising needs.

We look forward to collaborating with them again in the future!

With thanks,

Heidi Buck

Calling All Photographers!
Trails Enhancement Project

The Trails Enhancement Project is progressing and is now requesting photographs from our community. These photographs will appear on our trail signage, website, COMPASS articles, and a trail guidebook.

We have created a subject list of birds, animals, insects and plants for which we need images. A Photograph Submission Packet contains information regarding the project, a list of the subjects, instructions and a form for submitting your photographs. The deadline for submissions is Tuesday, June 26, 2018.

Our team will select the best photographs from all submitted. Photo credit will be given for each photograph. Thank you in advance for your contribution to this community project.

Locations: Thunder Valley Casino Swallows

Want to see hundreds of swallows flying to and from their nests? You need to travel no further than Thunder Valley Casino. On the northeast corner of their property (near the train tracks) is a “Swallow Tower” costing $1,500,000 to build about 10 years ago.

When we were there on June 4th, hundreds of birds were flying in and out of the sanctuary. We wondered how each bird knows how to locate their own nest. While the area adjacent to the tower is fenced off, you can take great pictures from the parking lot. There are lots of droppings, so consider wearing a hat or carrying an umbrella!

Thanks to John Neil for pointing out this interesting location.

Volunteers Needed for Video Production

The Association’s Video Services Group (“VSG”), a sub-group within the Communications and Community Relations Committee, is seeking volunteers to assist with producing a variety of different types of video pieces.  These videos are almost all intended for posting to our Association’s YouTube channel to be viewed by residents.

VSG is particularly interested in hearing from residents who have experience in all aspects of video creation.  We want to hear from YOU if you would like to become involved with the planning, directing, camera operating, video editing, audio engineering, and/or assisting more experienced members of the group.  If any of the foregoing piques your interest, please contact Peter Beckett via e-mail at videography@sclhca.com.

SCLH Photography Club Facebook Page

This is a place for SCLH Photography Members to have a conversation about photography, cameras, and places to shoot photography in the area. You can ask a specific "how to" or "where can I find..." or "how can I improve this shot?" or "thinking of going to.....does anyone want to come too?" You can post great photography-related websites that others might like. Use your creativity.

There are a few rules.

  1. No politics, none, nada.

  2. The only things you can sell on this page are photography equipment that is usually sold within the club like reselling cameras, printers, etc. Nothing else. Nothing.

  3. Constructive criticism only when critiquing. (Don't tell us that it was a stupid, boring shot, We'll figure it out anyway.)

  4. If you are selling your photography, protect your copyright. You may not want that one up on the Internet on Facebook. Post a link to your photography website instead.

The BLOG is Here!!! Check it Out.

The latest blog post is on backing up your photos

We all know we should backup our photos but how many of us do and more importantly are we doing it properly? The latest blog post gives my opinions and that of experts on backing up photos as well as other important files and presents links to articles that deal with the subject of backups. It will discuss backup software some which is free and some you have to pay for. It will also list cloud based solutions for backing up your photos and other important files.

You may think you are doing everything right when it comes to backups but are you? Check out this blog post and then you can make an informed decision on whether to keep doing it the way you are doing it or switch to a different and hopefully better way.

The For more information go to the  Blog.

We want to hear from You!

One of the nice things about the Blog is you have the ability to comment on blog posts and respond to someone else's comments. You can even put a photo in your comment.  So far no one has commented on any of the posts. We were hoping members would get involved and express there opinions.  In fact we encourage you to do so.

If you have any experience with, or opinions about, any of the information presented in the blog posts please share your thoughts with your fellow Club members. Post a comment. I would prefer the Blog be a conversation and not a lecture.

Have a post idea... Let us know.

One final reminder. Any member can make a Blog post. Just write it up and send it to me. You can even remain anonymous however you do have to tell me who you are but I won't use your name as the author.

To navigate to the blog look for the BLOG link at the end of the main menu, or click   HERE

We hope you will enjoy this feature and participate by commenting on blog posts, responding to the comments of others, and asking questions.
