The Photography Club at the Lifestyles Expo, February 27, 2018

Dale Petersen, Patrick Jewel, Charlie Schuman and Brad Senn staffed the Photography Club tables for the February Lincoln Hills Association "It's the Lifestyle Expo" held February 27 in the Orchard Creek Ballroom.

There were many visitors to our display attracted by the parade of photos displayed on two computers and the wonderful prints by Patrick Jewel and others.

This Expo resulted in four new people signing up to join our club and many more seriously thinking about it

Ed Rotberg Shared his Passion for Photography at our February Meeting

Ed Rotberg

We were delighted to welcome Ed Rotberg as our February guest speaker. Ed is an avid photographer, and has been since 1972. He made the switch from film to ‘digital and Photoshop’ in 2003.

While Ed photographs everything from architecture and street scenes, to portraits and landscapes, his real passion is photographing wildlife and nature, especially birds. He and his wife have greatly enjoyed combining photography with their travels throughout the United States and to such places as Australia, Ireland, Scotland, Costa Rica, Tanzania and Namibia.

His work has appeared in galleries and books, and his work has been featured both inside and on the cover of Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Shoreline Magazine and the cover of their current Visitor’s Guide.

Basics of Great Photography February Workshop: Composition

The topic of the mini-workshop for February was composition. All successful images are composed so that different elements in a photograph come together to tell a story. Composition involves looking and thinking and then deciding what it is you want to say with your pictures. It’s one way of making order out of the chaos of life, but it’s also perhaps the hardest thing about photography to master. Just about anybody can master nice light, focus, and exposure, but it takes patience, thought, and honest self-criticism to learn how to make well-composed photos.

The next Learning session will be March 20th in the Multipurpose Room starting at 9:00 a.m. The topics will be "Shadows, Silhouettes and Simplicity."

Next Enhancement SIG Meeting - Wednesday February 7th 2018

The Photo Enhancement SIG Image Processing/Interpretive Challenge

will resume in March 2018. There is a link below to view and download the challenge photos.

Image Processed by Truman Holtzclaw

This meeting will feature the return of the Image Processing.Interpretive Challenge.

After the challenge presentations I plan to discuss some noise reduction techniques. At the February meeting there was some discussion about Noise Reduction Software and how so far none seem to do a great job. I have run across some techniques that while more time consuming do a decent job of reducing  noise while still maintaining detail sharpness.

I hope to see you there.

More details about this challenge along with the three challenge photos and the instructions on how to download them can be found    HERE

Volunteers Needed for Video Production

The Association’s Video Services Group (“VSG”), a sub-group within the Communications and Community Relations Committee, is seeking volunteers to assist with producing a variety of different types of video pieces.  These videos are almost all intended for posting to our Association’s YouTube channel to be viewed by residents.

VSG is particularly interested in hearing from residents who have experience in all aspects of video creation.  We want to hear from YOU if you would like to become involved with the planning, directing, camera operating, video editing, audio engineering, and/or assisting more experienced members of the group.  If any of the foregoing piques your interest, please contact Peter Beckett via e-mail at videography@sclhca.com.

The BLOG is Here!!! Check it Out.

The latest blog post is on backing up your photos

We all know we should backup our photos but how many of us do and more importantly are we doing it properly? The latest blog post gives my opinions and that of experts on backing up photos as well as other important files and presents links to articles that deal with the subject of backups. It will discuss backup software some which is free and some you have to pay for. It will also list cloud based solutions for backing up your photos and other important files.

You may think you are doing everything right when it comes to backups but are you? Check out this blog post and then you can make an informed decision on whether to keep doing it the way you are doing it or switch to a different and hopefully better way.

The For more information go to the  Blog.

We want to hear from You!

One of the nice things about the Blog is you have the ability to comment on blog posts and respond to someone else's comments. You can even put a photo in your comment.  So far no one has commented on any of the posts. We were hoping members would get involved and express there opinions.  In fact we encourage you to do so.

If you have any experience with, or opinions about, any of the information presented in the blog posts please share your thoughts with your fellow Club members. Post a comment. I would prefer the Blog be a conversation and not a lecture.

Have a post idea... Let us know.

One final reminder. Any member can make a Blog post. Just write it up and send it to me. You can even remain anonymous however you do have to tell me who you are but I won't use your name as the author.

To navigate to the blog look for the BLOG link at the end of the main menu, or click   HERE

We hope you will enjoy this feature and participate by commenting on blog posts, responding to the comments of others, and asking questions.
