The Art of Creating a Compelling Photo

David Wong Shared His Secrets at April's General Meeting

Time, mood and maybe a bit of Zen was the intriguing topic of our April speaker. David Wong was a self-taught photographer for many years. He was inspired to take photography more seriously when a photo of his was used by Ted Orland (assistant to Ansel Adams) as an example for Ted’s photography students. David describes ‘telling a story’ as one of the most difficult aspects of photography. He believes in studying the photos of others to determine just what it is that draws us to visit a certain photo over and over. What elements and techniques do we “paint” our photographs with to make them compelling? David has discovered the secret to intriguing photos and he inspired us to chase the path he paved.

Following coverage of the May 5 PACE Race, and until sometime in October, 2018, the Group members will be pursuing other interests.

Testimonial for Lincoln Hills Lifestyles Photography Club

STEM EXPO 2018 Rocklin, CA

We would like to thank the Lincoln Hills Lifestyles Photography Club for volunteering their services at STEM Expo - Placer County’s official alternative to the traditional science fair - held March 3, 2018 in Rocklin.

What a great group of photographers!  Brad Senn - Klara Kleman - Jeff Andesen - Charlie - Schuman - Jim Cormier - Carl Neeley - Gary Stephens

Our event involves a myriad of activities throughout the day including: judged student exhibits, vendors, stage presentations and award ceremony, all of which the club members handled with both professionalism and great attitude. After the event, they quickly provided our non-profit with documentation photos as well as artistic shots and a video that we will be able to utilize both on our website and future marketing/fundraising needs.

We look forward to collaborating with them again in the future!

With thanks,

Heidi Buck

Volunteers Needed for Video Production

The Association’s Video Services Group (“VSG”), a sub-group within the Communications and Community Relations Committee, is seeking volunteers to assist with producing a variety of different types of video pieces.  These videos are almost all intended for posting to our Association’s YouTube channel to be viewed by residents.

VSG is particularly interested in hearing from residents who have experience in all aspects of video creation.  We want to hear from YOU if you would like to become involved with the planning, directing, camera operating, video editing, audio engineering, and/or assisting more experienced members of the group.  If any of the foregoing piques your interest, please contact Peter Beckett via e-mail at videography@sclhca.com.

The latest blog post is on backing up your photos

We all know we should backup our photos but how many of us do and more importantly are we doing it properly? The latest blog post gives my opinions and that of experts on backing up photos as well as other important files and presents links to articles that deal with the subject of backups. It will discuss backup software some which is free and some you have to pay for. It will also list cloud based solutions for backing up your photos and other important files.

You may think you are doing everything right when it comes to backups but are you? Check out this blog post and then you can make an informed decision on whether to keep doing it the way you are doing it or switch to a different and hopefully better way.

The For more information go to the  Blog.

We want to hear from You!

One of the nice things about the Blog is you have the ability to comment on blog posts and respond to someone else's comments. You can even put a photo in your comment.  So far no one has commented on any of the posts. We were hoping members would get involved and express there opinions.  In fact we encourage you to do so.

If you have any experience with, or opinions about, any of the information presented in the blog posts please share your thoughts with your fellow Club members. Post a comment. I would prefer the Blog be a conversation and not a lecture.

Have a post idea... Let us know.

One final reminder. Any member can make a Blog post. Just write it up and send it to me. You can even remain anonymous however you do have to tell me who you are but I won't use your name as the author.
