February 2020 Presentation
Gary Wagner
Gary Wagner’s love of the photographic image began when he became the photographer for his high school newspaper in Kokomo, Indiana. He continued his education at Indiana University in Bloomington, eventually moving to Santa Barbara, California, to attend Brooks Institute of Photography. While at Brooks, Gary increased his artistic and theoretical knowledge of photography and the historical significance of the printed image. Earning a Master’s Degree in Photography from Brooks Institute, with the publication of his work on historical carbon printing, gave Gary a continued appreciation and passion for his art.
You may view Gary's website HERE.

THE LEARNING SIG PRESENTS A FLASH WORKSHOP
JUST IN TIME FOR YOUR HOLIDAY PHOTOS!
Club member and awesome photographer, Charlie Shuman, will share his expertise in flash photography. The November session was geared toward all skill levels and answers basic questions like, “When do I need flash?” Your assignment will be to bring some of your successes and failures to the January Learning SIG for group discussion. In February, we will present more advanced material for lighting your subjects. Bring your photos, cameras and user manuals to the next two sessions/

February 5th Enhancement SIG to feature a photo "Compositing" challenge.
The idea of the challenge is to take a look at how different people interpret
and apply their personal touch to the same image.
We're gonna change things up for the New Year when it comes to the Photo Challenge slated for the February Meeting. We are going to challenge our members to create a composited "Moon Set" photo.
The subject will be the moon setting in the early morning over Lone Pine Mountain or Mount Whitney situated just West of I-395 and the Alabama Hills in the Eastern Sierra.
The final image should be a "Composite" created using the following four images.
Lone Pine Mountain
Morning Winter Sky
Moon
Star Field
Click on the above photos to go to Photo Challenge Page and the Hi-Rez Challenge images to download & process.
To participate in the challenge, download the high quality image files from the Photo Challenge Page. Click on the photos above to go to the page.
There are no rules other than you must still be able to recognize the photo as being derived from the original Lone Pine Mountain photo. You can substitute your own sky/clouds, moon or stars. Once composited you can turn it into a work of art such as a painting, sketch, cartoon, or abstract. It's up to you.
If you are using Photoshop you might want to try using the "Blend If" option which can be accessed from the top Menu by clicking on: Layers > Layers Style > Blending Options > Then use the Blend If controls.
Robert Thomas who runs www.photoblogstop.com has an outstanding description on how to use the luminosity blending mode to add a moon (or stars) to an image.
You can see the video presentation on You Tube at:

You can read his tutorial at:

SCLH Photography Club Facebook Page
This is a place for SCLH Photography Members to have a conversation about photography, cameras, and places to shoot photography in the area. You can ask a specific "how to" or "where can I find..." or "how can I improve this shot?" or "thinking of going to.....does anyone want to come too?" You can post great photography-related websites that others might like. Use your creativity. The SCLH Photography Facebook page is restricted to the Club membership only.
There are a few rules.
-
No politics, none, nada.
-
The only things you can sell on this page are photography equipment that is usually sold within the club like reselling cameras, printers, etc. Nothing else. Nothing.
-
Constructive criticism only when critiquing. (Don't tell us that it was a stupid, boring shot, We'll figure it out anyway.)
-
If you are selling your photography, protect your copyright. You may not want that one up on the Internet on Facebook. Post a link to your photography website instead.

Volunteers Needed for Video Production
The Association’s Video Services Group (“VSG”), a sub-group within the Communications and Community Relations Committee, is seeking volunteers to assist with producing a variety of different types of video pieces. These videos are almost all intended for posting to our Association’s YouTube channel to be viewed by residents.
VSG is particularly interested in hearing from residents who have experience in all aspects of video creation. We want to hear from YOU if you would like to become involved with the planning, directing, camera operating, video editing, audio engineering, and/or assisting more experienced members of the group. If any of the foregoing piques your interest, please contact Peter Beckett via e-mail at videography@sclhca.com.
