GENERAL MEETING, JUNE 10, 2020, 9:00 AM ON LINE (INSTRUCTIONS BELOW)
WILL BE RESCHEDULED
GUEST SPEAKER: LISA KRISTINE
OUR GUEST SPEAKER HAS USED PHOTOGRAPHY TO ACCOMPLISH MORE FOR THE GOOD OF MANKIND THAN ANY OF US COULD IMAGINE. HER PHOTOS DON'T JUST TELL STORIES, THEY SPEAK VOLUMES. THEY CAPTURE EMOTION, PAIN, HAPPINESS, LOVE, BROTHERHOOD AND MUCH MORE IN WAYS THAT CANNOT BE DESCRIBED, BUT MUST BE SEEN TO BE UNDERSTOOD.
Humanitarian photographer Lisa Kristine creates more than images, she inspires change. A master storyteller, Lisa documents indigenous cultures in more than 100 countries on six continents, instinctively identifying the universal human dignity in all of us. Awakening compassion and igniting action in a worldwide audience with powerful, broad-sweeping images of courage and tender, intimate portrayals, Lisa elevates significant social causes—such as the elimination of human slavery and the unification of humanity—to missions. Her work resonates in the heart and moves us to act. Best known for her evocative and saturated use of color, her fine art prints are among the most sought after and collected in the world.
YOU CAN EXPLORE HER WORK [HERE]

July 1st Online Esig Photo Challenge "Landscapes of Outer Space"
is a Fun Opportunity to Develop Your Compositing Skills!
The idea of the challenge is to create a fantasy Outer Space Scene using images
from our supplied gallery or from images found on the internet.
The July 1st Online Enhancement SIG Challenge will give our members a chance to develop their compositing skills by creating “Landscapes of Outer Space” from multiple images of planets, nebulae, and landscapes from Mono Lake, Alabama Hills, Bristlecone Pine Forest or the Mars Lander. The meeting will begin at 9:00 AM.
This Challenge will present the perfect opportunity to learn, practice and build your skills in using selecting tools, masking techniques, and layer blending.

Below is a sample image created by Bob Baikauskas to illustrate the concept. It was assembled using a foreground image of Mono Lake, a star field, several planets and a nebula taken by the Hubble telescope.

This should be a fun project that has no rules other than the image should represent that of a scene from outer space.
To get you started we have posted 45 images that you can use to create your masterpiece. We have foreground images from Alabama Hills, Mono Lake and Bristlecone Pines, Planets and Nebulae from Hubble Telescope and a Star field from one of the Club's Galaxy photo outings. They are posted on our July Photo Challenge Page.

We have also provided links to a wide variety of YouTube videos that demonstrate compositing techniques and how to create space scenes such as nebulae and planets from scratch.

The Enhancement SIG will be held Online at 9:00 AM on Wednesday July 1st using the Go to Meeting (GTM) Video Conferencing system. This is the same platform we use for our General Meeting. SIG Coordinator, Kate McCarthy, will be emailing announcements about the meeting and will follow-up with emailed invitations to join via GTM.
The above image is a composite created with the eight images below.
We have posted 45 high resolution images of foregrounds, planets, stars, and nebulae on our Photo Challenge Page for your convenience.

You can also get your own images from various websites, whose links we have also posted on the Photo Challenge Page. Or, you can use your own images that you have or make.

Click on the orange button below to go to our July Photo Challenge Page.
Fore those who would like, we have kept the information about the June Enhancement SIG Challenge on the site (see panel below). If you would like to re-work some of the images and share them us during the July SIG we would be happy to do so time permitting.
June 3rd Enhancement SIG to feature Filter Forge Presentation by Steve Stewart and a Photo Editing Challenge using full resolution RAW file images.
The Enhancement SIG meets Online on the first Wednesday of the month at 9:00 AM.
The meetings will be conducted using the Video Conferencing platform "Go To Meeting".
Invitations to join the meeting will be sent by email.
Kate McCarthy will be announcing the invitation email with details regarding
when the invitations should be available in your email "in-box".
The Online meeting will start at 9:00 AM on Wednesday, June 3rd, and will feature a presentation by Club Member Steve Stewart. He will showcase the Filter Forge image processing software that provides over 13,000 the creative filters for enhancing your images.

Filter Forge offers over 6300 artistic effect filters (watercolor, paint, grunge, etc.) that can be applied to any image. It takes just a few clicks to achieve an effect that will require hours to implement in other software. In addition it offers over 6700 textures (fabrics, abstracts, concrete, gravel, dirt, paint splatter, etc.) that are ready to use. Realistic and fantastic textures, with render maps and proper real-world HDR lighting to get your project going in a few clicks!

Here is a representative example of how Steve uses
Filter Forge to enhance his images.
The Photo Editing Challenge will feature full resolution RAW file images
from noted British Photographer Nigel Danson.
The idea of the challenge is to take a look at how different people interpret
and apply their personal touch to the same image.
Following Steve Stewart's presentation we will review the photo editing approaches that Club Members have applied to Nigel Danson's three RAW file Challenge Images.

What is special about this set of challenge photos, besides their beauty, is the fact that the original RAW files are available for download from Nigel’s Website via a Google Drive with a fast download speed. The files are unprocessed just as them came out of the camera with all the raw data intact.

The files were originally posted on Nigel’s Blog as a photo challenge to encourage his blog visitors to download and process the images as a challenge/competition. Over 1,000 processed images were submitted and the top selections were then posted on a subsequent blog post.

You can view Nigel’s favorites on his blog here:

You can watch a YouTube video where Nigel discusses the photo challenge here:

Here’s a link to Nigel’s About Me page:
https://www.nigeldanson.com/about-me-1

The RAW files will vary in size from 56.2Mbs to 70.2Mbs. Download times are very fast as they are hosted on a Google Drive. Typical download will be under a minute depending on your internet connection.

You can download compressed png files from our website if you wish. The file sizes are under 14Mbs and can be accessed from our Sig Photo Challenge Page. Click on the button below.

SCLH Photography Club Facebook Page
This is a place for SCLH Photography Members to have a conversation about photography, cameras, and places to shoot photography in the area. You can ask a specific "how to" or "where can I find..." or "how can I improve this shot?" or "thinking of going to.....does anyone want to come too?" You can post great photography-related websites that others might like. Use your creativity. The SCLH Photography Facebook page is restricted to the Club membership only.
There are a few rules.
-
No politics, none, nada.
-
The only things you can sell on this page are photography equipment that is usually sold within the club like reselling cameras, printers, etc. Nothing else. Nothing.
-
Constructive criticism only when critiquing. (Don't tell us that it was a stupid, boring shot, We'll figure it out anyway.)
-
If you are selling your photography, protect your copyright. You may not want that one up on the Internet on Facebook. Post a link to your photography website instead.
