Hey folks! Now is the time to renew your
Membership... Dues are Due for 2016-17

It is that time of year to renew your membership..  It is still only $15 per year per household.  Renew and enjoy all the advantages the Club membership provides: Informative General Meeting and Special Interest Groups, Field Triips and Exhibition opportunities. You can pay your dues to Dale Peterson at the upcoming General Meeting.  If you joined the club this year you are covered for this period.

Nationally Acclaimed Astrophotographer Tony Hallas will be featured Speaker at the August 10th General Meeting.

Tony's presentation will discuss "Color" how it works and how to manipulate it to make your images better.

Tony is a nationally recognized astrophotographer who has been shooting stars since 1986.  While he is known for his astrophotography, he is also known as a highly skilled photo printer.

Having owned and operated a large custom, commercial photo lab for many years in Southern California Tony sold his lab to concentrate on astrophotography and in 1992 he opened Astro Photo, a small specialized lab to provide services specifically to astrophotographers.

He is highly sought after as a speaker and has made presentations regarding photo processing and the techniques for taking photographs of celestial objects.

Here is a link to a YouTube video of his 2014 speech to the Annual Southern California Astronomy Expo (SCAE) Imaging Symposium, sponsored by Oceanside Photo and Telescope about how to use your DLSR for astrophotography:

The BLOG is coming... oh noooo!!

A new feature has been added to the club's website. It's a blog.

The new blog will replace the old bulletins that were published infrequently. The new blog posts will be shorter, more timely, usually cover only one topic and while there won't be daily posts they will be much more frequent. They will also be used for timely club announcements.

Perhaps the best thing is you will have the ability to comment on blog posts and respond to someone elses comments. You will even be able to put a photo in your comment.

The first blog post is already on the website. It provides more detailed information about how the blog will operate and how to post comments. The second blog post will appear Monday August 1st. More are already in the que and others are in the works so check frequently.

To navigate to the new blog look for the BLOG link at the end of the main menu, or click   HERE

We hope you will enjoy this new feature and participate by commenting on blog posts, responding to the comments of others, and asking questions.

High Winds make for tough shoot during Woods Lake Wildflowers Trip

Allen Adler

Mother Nature did not smile on the intrepid group that made a 3:30am departure from OC Lodge.

High Winds and chilly 54 degree temperatures greeted the group of five Club members who made the trip to Woods Lake to photograph wildflowers on July 18th.

Making the trip were Allen Adler, Jeff Andersen, Bob Baikauskas, Pete Henshaw and Marion Randall.

The group pushed onto the meadow making the half-mile hike to the meadow in the early morning light before the sun hit the Eastern ridgeline.

You can check out some of the shots that were made on the trip dispite the high gusty winds.  To view them go to our Field Trip Page   HERE

Black and White Images will be showcased in upcoming Orchard Creek Lodge Reception area August 1st - 31st.

Photography Club members who participated in the recent Simple Pleasures “Black & White” Exhibit earlier this year will have an encore performance as the Community Association will be featuring their images in the Orchard Creek Lodge Reception Area from August 1st through August 31st.

This new exhibition venue is a result of the highly successful display of clay sculptures from the America’s ClayFest Exhibition in the Reception Area this past April.

The Association plans to continue displaying artwork created by residents who participate in the various artistically oriented clubs.  The display area will feature new art  displays every month.

Eastern Sierra Fall Colors and a mid-October “Super-Moon”
will be the focus of the Club Photo Field Trip slated for this Fall.

Moonrise over Patriarch Grove by Bob Baikauskas was shot in the Bristlecone Pine Forest on October 16, 2013.

The Scenic 395 website is the “Official Promotional Guide” for the towns along the length of the Highway that runs from Reno NV all the way to Kramer Junction, CA.  It’s a wealth of information regarding great photo opportunities.  HERE

Moon Giant website provides a schedule for the exact time the moon will be at its maximum fullness:  HERE

The California Highway 395 Corridor on the Eastern Sierra from Tahoe and Mono Lake to the Alabama Hills will be the focus of the Club’s annual Fall Color Field trip scheduled to take place this coming mid-October.

In addition to the Fall Colors, the trip is being scheduled to also take advantage of a “Super Moon” that will reach its maximum fullness on the evening of October 15th at precisely 9:23 pm.

Wikipedia defines Super Moon as “the coincidence of a full moon or a new moon with the closest approach the Moon makes to the Earth on its elliptical orbit, resulting in the largest apparent size of the lunar disk as seen from Earth.” It’s BIG folks and the October moon will also be BIG.

This year we will be extending our stays in Bishop and in Lone Pine to allow for more time to photograph in those areas.  Moonlight photography in the Alabama Hills and possibly in the Bristlecone Pine Forest are also on the agenda... more details will be forthcoming via emails and updates to the website.

The trip is scheduled to start Thursday October 13th and end October 18th.  An itinerary will be prepared and will be similar to that which was prepared for last year’s trip that also took place in mid October.  Here is a link to our website’s Location Page that includes downloadable Trip planning materials that were prepared for the 2015 trip.  HERE

Updated materials for this year’s trip will be prepared and will be posted to this site later this month in order to allow folks time to plan and make hotel reservations.  There will also be a pre-trip planning meeting in August to facilitate questions and discussion.

If you have any ideas, questions, or suggestions regarding the trip you can email them to Bob Baikauskas  HERE

A New Location added: Caples Creek

The Caples Creek trail is eighty miles from Lincoln Hills, and is in the Eldorado National Forest. On July 8, lots of water was flowing and a variety of beautiful wildflowers were in peak bloom. To learn more about this location, click  HERE

The locations page is a collection of photography locations from individual member travels, and from past club-organized field trips. It’s goal is to serve as an inspiration to go somewhere and photograph something interesting. It can also help organize future field trips.

The main page has a list with important keywords, such as subjects and locations, which can be searched using your browser. There are links to detail pages, containing maps or links to maps, example images, and lots of trip hints including best spots, parking, accommodations, and what to wear.
